Historic Franklin Highlights

Residents of Franklin are incredibly proud of the town's historic legacy. Visit any of the museums or historical sites around town and you’ll soon understand why. See the city via a walking tour with Franklin on Foot (they offer many types of tours and also have bike tours as well). Civil War and history buffs must head to Carnton Plantation, where in November 1864, the site was witness to the Battle of Franklin. Carnton became the largest field hospital in the area following the terrible battle and in 1866, the McGavock Confederate Cemetery was established nearby. It holds the remains of nearly 1,500 Southern soldiers. Plan a visit to the Lotz House, a museum on the National Historic Register located in the heart of Franklin. You can explore Civil War-era antiques and hear the story of the Lotz family who lived here during one of the most pivotal and bloodiest battles of the Civil War.

Movie Night

Take in a classic flick or a live concert at the historic Franklin Movie Theater in Downtown Franklin. You’ll feel like you stepped back in time! This theater first opened in 1937, closed in 2007, and then was rehabilitated by a nonprofit preservation group and opened again in 2011—better than ever.

Shop Till You Drop

For a quaint, local shopping experience, Downtown Franklin is the place to go. For department stores and brand names, head to the Cool Springs Galleria, only a 10-minute drive from your apartment home. For a truly unique-to-Franklin shopping experience, visit the Factory at Franklin, a 12-building dining, retail, and entertainment complex that is on the National Register of Historic Places. There’s a little something for everyone here!
